New Southern Energy (NSE) was Founded as a solar company in 2010 and has become one of the leading renewable energy solution providers to the commercial and industrial markets in Southern and East Africa.
NSE is a fully vertically integrated Independent Power Producer (IPP) that designs, invests, builds, operates and maintains our own portfolio of energy assets. We also offer our EPC and O&M services to third parties that wish to own systems directly.
As a solar company with offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Nairobi, we operate across Africa having built and commissioned some of the leading commercial and industrial systems across the continent.
Solar company growth and expansion
Our journey as a solar company started when the company was founded in 2010 and we have been on a growth trajectory since then. In 2013, we completed our first major off-grid solar system with &Beyond, who are still clients today. In 2016, we commissioned the largest solar rooftop installation in South Africa at the time.
Committed to growth across the continent, the first NSE office opened in Nairobi Kenya, establishing our presence as a solar company with visibility in East Africa. To date, we have completed multiple systems in Kenya, including a multi-site installation for the Devki portfolio and Tanzania, including one at Grumeti Nature Reserve.
In 2019, we were awarded an 11MB multi-site portfolio project for CCBSA, which included both brown field and green field sites, all of which have been successfully completed and commissioned. In 2021, our first investment from the JNE fund made further expansion possible, so that by 2022, we could evolve from a solar company into a fully-fledged independent energy provider. In order to enhance access to renewable energy and help make funding accessible for PPA systems, we secured a US$10 million debt funding partnership. As a solar company that offers this access, NSE is in a unique position to offer the full scope of project funding, solar EPC and operations and maintenance services.

Solar & storage
Our renewable energy solutions provide an alternative to your traditional electricity supplier. These solutions achieve significant financial savings while also off-setting carbon. Backup power can be added to provide energy security and eliminate load shedding from operations.
Wheeling
With new legislation in place, IPP’s are now able to generate power off site and wheel that power through the Eskom network. This power gets offset against one’s current bill through the prescribed energy wheeling framework. A wheeling PPA allows for a larger portion of one’s energy demand to be supplied through cheaper cleaner energy.
Energy planning
We assess and design the consolidation of your internal electrical infrastructure to not only allow for maximum renewable energy penetration and backup power solutions but to also improve the efficiency in how you use power.

With over 60MW installed, our systems are designed and constructed to the highest standards to ensure optimal performance over the project lifecycle. Our advanced solar asset management platform allows full visibility into your investment’s performance.
