Project Category Southern Africa

At Source Handmade Foods

At Source Handmade foods is situated in the Ceres Valley, in the Western Cape province, South Africa. The company currently produces over 170 different individual fruit and nut products, which are marketed both under their own brands and under premium retailer brands.
New Southern Energy designed a 112,05 kWp PV Solar system for At Source that includes 270 x 415 Wp solar modules, 3 x 33,3kW grid-tied string inverters, 135 optimizers and one tie in point to the site’s low voltage network. The system can be monitored remotely via a control and monitoring system.

Marks Fresh Produce

Marks Fresh Produce is situated in Villiersdorp, in the Western Cape, South Africa. This town, often referred to as the “Pearl of the Overberg” lies in the heart of a deciduous fruit area, which is ideally suited for agriculture.
New Southern Energy designed a 112,05 kWp PV Solar system for Marks Fresh Produce that includes 270 x 415 Wp solar modules and 3 x 33,3kW grid-tied string inverters, as well as a control and monitoring system.

L.A. Staal

L.A. Staal have been experts in steel construction since 1988 with a facility in Worcester in the Western Cape. A grid-tied photo-voltaic solar energy system was developed for the business.
By supplying the facility with sustainable energy, the system reduces the business’ electrical demand and consequently its electricity costs. Additionally, the solar system is synchronised with the existing diesel generator supplying the facility to offset the fuel consumption.

HJ Nicholls and Sons

Based in Ceres in the Western Cape, HJ Nicholls & Sons have been quality Fruit Packers and Distributers Since 1957. A rooftop, grid-tied photo-voltaic solar energy system was developed for HJ Nicholls & Sons. The system’s focus is to reduce the facility’s electricity costs by supplying the facility with sustainable energy and reducing electrical demand.

Eselfontein

Eselfontein is the oldest farm in Ceres, where mixed farming is practiced with apples, peaches, pears, grain & dairy. The source of the Breede River also lies in the surrounding mountains, from where it flows into a magnificent dam next to the eco camp. A grid-tied photo-voltaic solar energy system was developed for the farm with the aim of reducing the electrical costs.

Alzu

Situated halfway between Middelburg and Belfast in Mpumalanga, exactly 35km from both, the Alzu Petroport is a convenient stop-over for road travelers, a comfortable rest-haven for tourists and a trucker's dream-stop, between Gauteng and the Lowveld.
There are two solar systems that New Southern Energy developed: One at the Petroport, and one at the nearby Alzu farm. Both are single axis tracker systems was built for this ground mounted system, so that the panels can follow the sun, optimize efficiency and generate as much solar energy as possible.

Cedar Pack

With a citrus production of nearly 600 000 15 KG-cartons on 300ha of land, this producer needed to streamline their energy usage. A 100kWp grid-tied roof top system was proposed, now producing up to 55% of their electricity needs.

Bosman’s Business Centre

Located in the heart of Stellenbosch, this development comprises of more than 10000sq/m of parking, retail, and office space. A grid-tied solution was provided to offset their energy consumption. The 85.6kWp rooftop system produces 37% of the centre’s energy needs, helping them become less reliable on the grid and reduce their carbon footprint.

Alhambra

This unique solar PV system was created to pump water by using the sun's energy. Coupled to an Yaskawa Variable Speed Drive (VSD) with a built in Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT), this system allows for the direct conversion of solar energy to control the pump. Having no utility connection on site, this sustainable solar powered pump is 100% off the grid.

Golden Arrow Training Centre

A solar energy system was proposed for the Golden Arrow Training Centre in Philippi, Cape Town. With an aim to reduce the municipal electrical bill by utilising the available sun energy, the new solar system will supply the training centre with sustainable energy, reducing municipal demand and shaving load spikes. An initial 25.6kWp system was built in 2018 and a 25.92kWp extension was added in 2020, bringing the total system size to 51.52kWp.
