MSC Inhaca Island

Southern Africa

Overview

This site houses guests from the MSC Cruise liner route looping around South East Africa. This specific site is located on Inhaca Island, Mozambique. The site required a completely off grid renewable energy system as there is no grid connectivity on the island. Primary purpose of the installation was to refurbish an existing installation, and upgrade in line with the facilities expansion. Typically the installation also served purpose to reduce diesel consumption and carbon footprint. The remote location adds to logistical challenges of maintaining constant diesel supply over land and ocean.  N.S.E. provided a full EPC/development service implementing a refurbished and upgraded microgrid solution. The project included Solar PV, generators, batteries, and AC reticulation.  The site now supplements +95 % of its total demand through solar and solar thermal, with an ongoing O&M contract ensuring continuous system performance and optimization.
